The Ash genus (Fraxinus)
Finding out what Ash species you are dealing with.
The only Dutch domestic ash is the Common ash (Fraxinus excelsior). The Flowering Ash (Fraxinus ornus) can be seen also here and there as well as the Narrow-leaved Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia). The Flowering Ash has brown wing-fruit that are a bit smaller (2-3cm) than those of the Common ash and the flowers look like fluff, while the flowers of the Common ash is smaller and less eye-catching. The Narrow-leaved Ash has dark-brown buds as characteristic, the Common ash has non-shiny black buds (2).
When trees are planted more species are possible from America for example. Seehere for links to a dozen or so species.
